This past week I had my first "meet up", it was a book club that I joined on meetup.com. Much to my mom's dismay, I ventured out...after dark (yikes!) in London by myself. It was perfectly safe and an easy commute by bus to the pub that the meeting was held. The book we discussed was Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson, which was a bit of a depressing book about abandonment, loss and family secrets. I enjoyed myself and met some nice ladies and I am looking forward to next months meeting!
I have also picked running back up since I don't have a gym membership. Memberships are pretty pricey and I have actually been enjoying my runs, which is surprising to me because I hated it in Springfield. I think it helps that there is constantly stuff to look at and pass by, it isn't boring. I've been trying to run three times a week and I'm up to about 4.5 miles. Who knows...maybe there is a 10K or half marathon in my future. I joined a running club online (also through meetup.com) and headed to my first run on Saturday. I thought I gave myself enough time to get to Kensington Gardens...but alas, I was 10 minutes late. I still had a great one hour run and I loved the park. If only it didn't take an hour to get there! I'm going to try the meet up again next week...hopefully I won't have any transport problems!
After my run on Saturday, Josh and I went out to explore London again. We haven't been out in a few weeks. It was a beautiful day to be outside, the sun was shining and the temperature was mild.
Josh on the bus. |
Josh wanted to check out a museum in the Somerset House, which is a place we have been before (ice skating rink). When we got there, we found this...
Fashion Week |
University of London Library |
Library |
Arch near Hyde Park |
Green Park |
Harrods |
We ended up going to a pub, called The Queen's Head, near our flat. The atmosphere was pretty good and we enjoyed ourselves. Rather than go home and make dinner, we ended up ordering Chinese food to go. It was just okay...definitely not China Wok!
In other news, Josh and I are planning a train trip to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Luxemburg for April. Hopefully we will book our train tickets today and start figuring out hotels!
Until next time...Rachel.

It's Sunday morning here. 8 am to be exact. I'm trying to decide if I go to church with Peg or on the tele. Actually they have some pretty good masses on the tube. After reading your blog and all the running and walking you did, I'm Wien out. Lol. Went to my brotherbDerald's funeral yesterday. It was very nice even though I cried through most of it. My siblings and I are down to 4 now. I certainly don't understand these families who barely speak to one another. Life is to short to hold grudges against each other. Thanks for the great pictures on your site. I feel I'm seeing London without being there. Glad your getting out and meeting more people. Book Club sounds fantastic to me! Running on the other hand, I think not. Love you, take care. Grandma D
Mutha, you crack me up!! LOL!
Rach, I never did make it through Housekeeping, I moved on to The Hunger Games! I will finish Housekeeping though. What's your club book for next month?
Glad you made it to Harrods...I can't wait to go there! Love and miss you! Sarah
So proud of you for getting yourself out there, I know how hard it is for you, this from a Girl who sought out and found a hairdresser that didn't like to chit chat, LOL! Pictures are beautiful, sounded like a awesome day.,do you Guys still feel like your on a HOLIDAY? Wonder if I will see that Fashion show on my Bravo shows. And those secret service looking men, wonder if Kate was visiting someone in one of those houses? Or maybe her parents live there?
Have a good week Rach, miss ya, Love Mom
PS.Germany is awesome, my ole stomping grounds. LOL!You will have to ask Uncle David what to see there.
I've been thinking about you and your siblings all week. I'm glad you were able to be with family, stuff like this is tough and it helps to be with people you love. Love you, Rachel
I'd say that Housekeeping had fantastic imagery, but other than that, not my favorite. The book for next month is something about a Midwife...I can't remember.
Speaking of hairdressers...I need a new one soon!
I'm going to have to check out this meetup.com...sounds pretty neat!
I hope Josh shared his chocolates with you on a Sunday or before Ash Wednesday...
He did! But it was on Saturday, so I was bad :( I just couldn't resist!
That's okay! Who can resist chocolate? I accidentally heated up left over bbq chicken for Sam on Friday, because it was 1pm, he hadn't eaten all day and it was the only edible food we had in the house and it needed to be eaten before we moved! I did make a delicious Salmon recipe for dinner though, something I was planning to make since Monday, but momentarily forgot about the no meat thing for lunch! So I led him to be bad!
I have done that before to Josh! What was the Salmon recipe? I need to eat more fish!
